Kirk
Jerry Lee Kirks first solo exhibition at Nine Eighteen Nine Studio Gallery is a retrospective collection of his painting consisting of work from as early as 1991, when he first relocated to Charlotte, to new work from this past year. Neo-expressionist and expressionist in style, Kirks art alternates between narrative images and scenes of nature stylistically unified by his bold use of color. Over his three decades as an award-winning painter here in Charlotte, Kirk's work has addressed such diverse topics as politics, religion, social concerns, and his love for nature, in particular the mountains of Western North Carolina. The images are rendered in varied styles that range from raw expressionism to realism to whimsy. Examples of all are included in this powerful exhibition curated by the gallery's Director, Joanne Rogers.
