Cureton
The Nine Eighteen Nine Studio Gallery proudly presents a solo exhibition by artist Princess Cureton. Her technique is a unique combination of acrylic paint, sculptural relief and surface manipulation on canvas and paper that proffers the illusion of reality. This exhibition titled “Projected Realities” is thematically based on memories, metaphors and colloquial that reflect both personal and universal experiences, narrated through the figure in surreal background.
“As a figurative painter, my process encourages the viewer to take a closer look and to examine the reality of the painted surface. The sculptural relief adds yet another layer of surprise that facilitates inquiry and conversation as it draws the viewer deeper into the narrative”. She also says that for her the work is therapeutic and helps process experiences and affirmations that more than often, evoke familiarity or resonation with the audience. “It’s an autobiography,
reflecting the consonance and dissonance in life”, that she unabashedly shares with others.
