Biography

Charlotte artist Ani Todd creates two-dimensional works using various drawing mediums.  Ani’s earliest influence and inspiration came from comic strips and graphic novels, subjects that appealed to her interest in visual storytelling.

Ani’s second influence came from her church where she created artwork for different ministries including choir concert programs, CD covers, cards and logos. Her images often contain positive and uplifting messages.  In addition to creating figurative pieces, she has slowly begun to delve into abstract work.

Since 2011, Ani has participated in various art shows in the Charlotte surrounding area including a solo show at Nordstrom in South Park, juried shows at the Charlotte Art League, Mint Hill Arts and South End Arts; group shows at Hart-Witzen Gallery, Spirit Square, Nine Eighteen Nine Studio Gallery, and at various other locations with the Palette Table “a ‘roundtable’ type group created to provide information and increased opportunities for artists of color.”

Ani is also the creator of the web-comic called “Tales from a Sketchy Artist,” and has been a past contributor artist for Inx comic, a quarterly zine featuring art and essays by local artists.  In 2021 she published her first zine called Tales from A Sketchy Artist: The COVID Chronicles.

Ani is a member of the Visual Arts Ministry at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church and a member of The Palette Table.
